1st Annual BHS College Decision Day

Burncoat High School in Worcester held its first annual College Decision Day on April 29, 2016 to celebrate those seniors who have decided where they will be for the next few years – either at an institution of higher education or in military service.

Underclassmen, faculty and the new Worcester Public Schools superintendent, Maureen Binienda, filled the gym bleachers and cheered as the seniors marched in Olympian-style, wearing college gear and holding aloft signs showing their choice. The event included selections by the pep band, dance team and the select chorus as well as congratulatory words from school officials.

Approximately 200 seniors who have deposited at 35 colleges or enlisted in three branches of the military participated in the event.

Marilyn Flores, an education advisor with MassEdCO’s Educational Talent Search program, was instrumental in the event’s planning.  ETS provided pizza for the seniors after the assembly ended.
