Students attend African American Read-In

Ninety-five MassEdCO GEAR UP and Educational Talent Search students from Worcester high schools recently attended the 4th Annual African American Read-In at Worcester State University. The event, organized and sponsored by WSU's ALANA (African, Latino/Hispanic, Asian and Native American) program, brings together WSU students, faculty, staff and high school students to celebrate African American literature. This year's lecture was given by Susan Harris O'Connor, author of The Harris Narratives. The book is a series of stories and reflections chronicle her experiences and emotions around being a trans-racial adoptee raised in a white environment.

High school attendees also had an informational admissions session with Kirsh Donis, associate director of undergraduate admissions at WSU. They also participated with WSU professors in small groups to discuss selected passages from African American authors.
