MassEdCO announces new program for teen parents

Massachusetts Education and Career Opportunities, Inc. (MassEdCO), is pleased to announce a grant award of $27,000 from the United Way of Central Massachusetts, enabling MassEdCO to offer specialized education support services to pregnant and parenting teens in Worcester.

The new program, “On Our Way - Education for a Bright Future,” focuses on academic and career support needs of participants, enabling them to graduate from high school and enroll in a postsecondary program leading to a viable career. In addition, referrals will be made to area health and social service agencies specializing in early childhood services to ensure that necessary supports are in place for participants’ children.

Pamela Boisvert, CEO of MassEdCO, states, “We are very excited about the opportunity to work closely with this vulnerable population, leveraging the myriad educational access and support services that MassEdCO can provide.  Having a strong educational background is one of the best things a teen mother can do to build a self-sufficient and fulfilling life for her and her child. We’re grateful to the United Way for making this possible.”

On Our Way is open to teen mothers who live in Worcester, whether currently enrolled in school or not, and  who would like guidance and ongoing support in successfully graduating from high school, choosing a career path and enrolling in a college or other postsecondary program.  All services are offered free of charge.
