The GEAR UP program in Springfield, a project of MassEdCO, held a successful College Application Celebration on December 4 at Putnam Vocational Technical Academy. More than 100 students, many low-income, first-generation college goers, submitted college applications with the help of volunteer counselors from eight colleges. The event was covered by three television news stations. Courtney Prendergast, a GEAR UP advisor, helped organize the event and was interviewed by Springfield stations WSHM-3, WGGB-40, and WWLP-22.
